His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, directed support for the Jockey Foundation at Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) from the proceeds of his private stables' participation in the club’s third annual horse auction.
HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad commended the development initiatives led by the High Committee of the REHC, chaired by His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Isa bin Salman Education Charitable Trust and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Labour Fund (Tamkeen), aimed at advancing all aspects of horse racing. His Highness emphasised the importance of continuing support for the sport in the Kingdom of Bahrain and driving further progress towards its goals.
HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad also commended the successful organisation of the annual horse auction and expressed hope that its outcomes would contribute to the diversification of horse breeds, provide optimal conditions for stables and horse owners, and enhance competitiveness.
The Jockey Foundation sets policies to support Bahraini jockeys in speed horse racing, establishes eligibility criteria, and develops strategic plans for sustainable assistance. It also oversees medical and financial support for injured jockeys during races or training, manages training programmes to rehabilitate injured jockeys, and supervises the Jockeys Academy to prepare riders for local and international competitions. Additionally, the fund coordinates with health authorities, insurance companies, and other supporting entities to ensure comprehensive support for jockeys.
